Wedding Cake FAQ

How soon do I need to set up an appointment for a wedding cake consultation?

I am booking some weddings as far as a year in advance. I recommend contacting me 4 to 6 months in advance. However, if I am not booked that weekend, I would be more then happy to speak with you anytime!

When do you schedule appointments and how do I set one up?

All consultations are by appointment only. My consultations are one of a kind! I do offer the traditional sit down in my bakery, but I have also partnered with a local wedding boutique, Yes to the Dress on Cedar Street. We get the ENTIRE boutique to ourselves for a one of a kind experience. You decide, keep it traditional, or make it a girls only event?!?!?! You can contact me by phone (260) 226-0452, email (pelmearscakecreations@gmail.com), the Contact me page on this website, or stop in the shop and we can talk.

Do you provide samples? Is there a cost for the consultation?

YES! I will provide 3 cupcakes, 3 fillings, and 3 icing selections to each guest. This will allow you to try multiple flavor combinations. There is a $25.00 fee for the consultation and includes the bride and one guest. The $25.00 fee will be applied to the final balance of the wedding cake you choose. (minimum order of $300) If you would like to bring more then one guest I accept that too! Each additional guest is only $5.00.

What should I bring to the consultation?

I ask that you bring any photos of cakes you like or even dislike, if you have them. Bring any color swatches you are wanting me to match. If you have a cake topper or decorations you would like me to use for inspiration as well. If you don't have any idea of exactly what you want, don't worry! I am great at helping you think through ideas to direct you to your dream cake. A consultation is the perfect opportunity to find exactly what you want!

What if I am on a budget?

Don't worry!! I work with every bride to find something economical AND beautiful! Just make sure I am aware of your budget and I will give you many options to choose from.

How much do your wedding cakes cost?

It's hard to put an exact price on a custom wedding cake. Each cake I take into account the material cost, the amount of time needed to create your desired look, and the level of difficulty. The best way to find out a target range is to ask! I'm always available.

Feel free to text or call anytime! (260) 226-0452

Do you use fondant or buttercream?

I generally try to stick with buttercream for wedding cakes, but this is all up to the bride and groom. All of my flavor options are available for wedding cakes. Use any combination to make your cake different and unique!

How do I know how many servings to order?

Unfortunately there is no set formula to figure this out. Not everyone that is invited will come. Not everyone will eat cake, and some will eat more then one serving. I usually suggest to subtract 15% from your guest list to be safe. But this number is completely up to you.

Do you deliver? What if I want to pick up my cake?

YES! All quotes include both delivery and set-up. There is no additional cost! I do not recommend picking up a wedding cake. Because cakes are made from delicate ingredients; there is special treatment required when transporting them. However, if you do decide to go this route, I will ask you to sign a waiver stating I am not responsible for any damage once the cake leaves my shop.

Is there a deposit? What are your payment options? When is payment due?

I ask 50% down to secure your wedding date. You are welcome to make any payment arrangements with me as long as the remaining balance is paid in full at least 3 weeks before your date. I accept cash or credit card.

Do you make cupcakes for weddings?

YES! You can have as many flavors as you like as long as each flavor is ordered in at least 1 dozen increments. I also have stands available for rent!!

Can we save our top cake for our anniversary?

YES! I will leave you with an instruction sheet, if requested, on how to wrap it and freeze it so one year later it tastes just as amazing as it did on your wedding day! But if you have no interest in eating a year old cake you are welcome to pre-order a freshly baked 6" layered cake to pickup for your anniversary a year later!

Can I make changes to my wedding cake?

All changes must be made 3 months prior to your reserved date. With the custom nature of my cakes, and their time requirement, it is very difficult to make changes after this. But please feel free to ask. If I can make a change I will gladly accommodate it. Just know it may not be an option.
